Kathmandu, August 18–Minister for Energy, Water resources and Irrigation Barsaram Pun has said that the government will come up with attractive hydropower projects having ownership of as many as 560 thousand Nepali households.
While speaking during the 33rd anniversary program of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) held in the capital on August 18, he made such a remark .
“One the one hand, the projects will have share investment of such large number of Nepali households. On the other, there will be no any unwarranted political influence/pressure while selecting them.”
Bemoaning that that the cost of hydel projects in the past had seen a two/three fold rise due to their politically motivated selection, Minister Pun said that his ministry will do away with such anomaly by developing the projects on the basis of competition.
During the program, Kulman Ghising, Executive Director, NEA, presented an annual report of the Authority of the last fiscal year. According to him, the state-owned power utility was able to post a net profit of Rs 1.01 billion and reduce the electricity leakage to 20.45 percent in the FY 2017/18.
He also said that the NEA will enhance its distribution capacity in order to supply 10 thousand megawatt of electricity to the Terai-based industrial corridors along with major cities of the country including Kathmandu.
