More than 90,000 tourists entered Nepal by air in May, marking a 16.1 percent increase compared to the same month last year. According to the Department of Immigration (DoT), 90,211 tourists arrived in Nepal by air in May.
India continues to be the leading source of tourists, with 38,288 Indian visitors in May, reflecting a 4.7 percent increase from the previous year. The United States follows India, with 8,527 American tourists, a slight decrease of 0.2 percent compared to last May.
China is also a significant contributor, with 8,381 Chinese tourists visiting Nepal, which is a 79.6 percent increase from last year.
There are 3,458 tourists from Bangladesh, 2,802 from Britain, and 2,194 from Australia. While the number of Bangladeshi tourists increased by 59.8 percent, the number of British tourists decreased by 4.3 percent.
Similarly, compared to last May, 37.3 percent more tourists from Malaysia i.e. 1,814, and 1,392 from Germany and 1,373 from South Korea entered the country this May. The number of German tourists increased by 19.5 percent and the number of South Korean tourists increased by 32.1 percent.
The number of Russian tourists increased by 60.7 percent to 1,437 in May.
Similarly, 1,284 tourists from France visited Nepal, a 17 percent increase from last May. Japan and Bhutan are also among the countries that sent more than 1,000 tourists. The number of Japanese tourists increased by 35 percent, while the number of Bhutanese tourists increased by 49.6 percent.
Mani Raj Lamichhane, spokesperson for the Nepal Tourism Board, said that the tourist arrival has increased due to effective promotion in the international market.
