Kathmandu, June 14: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista has called for cooperation and partnership from one and all for management of labour migration.
Addressing the centenary session of the International Labour Conference organized by International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday (June 13), Minister Bista said Nepal is affirmative on cooperation and partnership for safe, orderly and regular migration.
Stressing on the equality of treatment for the migrant workers in destination countries, Bista urged the concerned labour destinations where the Nepali migrant workers were working to start bilateral cooperation and discussion to ensure equal treatment for the Nepali migrant workers, according to a press statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Saying that decent work, social security and harmonious industrial relations were the major concerns for Nepal in terms of labour reform agenda, the Minister said, “Nepal has initiated multiple policy and legal reforms in the field of labour, employment and social security.” Sharing about the labour audit system that Nepal had introduced lately that would enable enterprises to enhance the compliance of labour laws, he underlined collaboration with the social partners for effective implement the reforms in labour sectors.
The Minister also informed about the Prime Minister Employment Programme that was aimed at creating decent job opportunities and ensure work-based social protection to every citizen. Minister Bista shared about the policy measures that have been put in place in Nepal to ensure minimum wages in a timely manner with a view to improve productivity and living standards of workers.
Furthermore, he said that Nepal remains committed to eliminate all forms of child labour by 2025 through a master plan. Lauding the role of ILO in promoting peace, equality and social justice, Minister Bista said, “Nepal is also committed to end forced labour, human trafficking and modern forms of slavery.” RSS
