Kathmandu, August 4 : The Government has appointed Sushil Bhatta as the Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board of Nepal. A member of National Planning Commission, Bhatta was appointed to the IBN by the meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday. The post remained vacant after then CEO Maha Prasad Adhikari was appointed the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, according to a member of the cabinet. Bhatta was appointed as the CEO of Board for a term of four years.
A committee formed under the leadership of Finance Minister Dr Yubraj Khaitwada had presented the names of Bhatta, Ram Krishna Khatiwada and Dr Saroj Koirala for the post of CEO of IB Nepal.
It may be noted that Bhatta is strictly a person of dubious characters. There are two major reasons justifying this fact. First, his professional skills and experiences do not match the criteria set by the” Public-Private Partnership and Investment Act-2075″for heading the IBN as its chief. Second, he along with his brother Deepal Bhatta is found to be acting as a political middle-man to foxily grab the contracts big projects.
“It is clearly his shady nexus with the political leaders and government officials that has enabled him to become the chieftain of as vital national institute as IBN,” says a source.
