May 29 : The government is to implement the program of ‘night heritage walk’ across all the cities with historic and cultural heritages in the Kathmandu Valley in a bid to promote tourism. Minister for Finance Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada announced so while presenting the budget of the upcoming fiscal year 2020/21 at the joint session of federal parliament yesterday
The said program was first introduced in the Bhaktapur city in 2019 to promote its heritage sites targeting the now annulled national tourism campaign of Visit Nepal Year 2020.
According to Minister Khatiwada, during the night heritage walk in the historic cities in the valley, various cultural processions would be held to fully entertain and enthrall the tourists without the disturbance of human and vehicular movements.
He said that the works relating to the construction of National Cultural Museum in Kirtipur will be taken ahead to promote the night walk in this city in particular.
The government has also announced other several measures to help boost the Nepali tourism sector in the budget. For instance, it is looking to implement the Great Lumbini Area Master Plan and the Ramgram Master Plan in the new fiscal year.
Similarly, the construction works of the international convention centre and mediation centre in Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, are planned to to be accomplished in the new fiscal year. The required process, according to the Minister, is being adopted to enlist Tilaurakot of Lumbini as a World Heritage site.
Likewise, the government has allocated budget for further developing Devghat, Pathivara, Ruru, Khaptad, Baraha Kshettra, Kakrebihar, Halesi Gaurishankar etc from the viewpoint of religious tourism.
