Kathmandu, September 22 : Only 11.39 percent of the total budget has been spent in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2020/21.
The data released by the Financial Controller General Office (FCGO) shows that the federal government was able to spend just Rs 81.53 billion of the total of Rs 1,474.64 billion earmarked for the current fiscal.
In the review period, the government spent a mere 1.51 percent of the total capital expenditure and just 7.76 percent of the total recurrent expenditure.
Out of the Rs 352.92 billion allotted for capital expenditure, only Rs 5.34 billion was mobilised. Likewise, Rs 73.6 billion was spent out of the total of Rs 948 billion earmarked as recurrent expenditure.
According to the government officials, the inadequate amount of budgetary spending in the last wo months of the current fiscal is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent prohibitory measures to curb it.
