Nepali insurance companies have so far settled 17.15 percent of the insurance claims related to property damage during the Gen Z movement in early September.
According to data from the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), non-life insurers received a total of 3,255 claims for damages caused during the incidents of September 8–9. The total claims amount to Rs 23.43 billion.
To date, insurers have paid out Rs 4.02 billion. Government records show that 695 residential and office buildings were vandalized or set on fire during the protests. Of the Rs 19.03 billion claimed for damaged buildings, insurers have paid Rs 3.09 billion.
Likewise, 2,295 claims worth Rs 3.44 billion were filed for damage to private vehicles, out of which victims have received Rs 848.50 million.
Under engineering and contract risks, insurers registered 209 claims amounting to Rs 550.04 million, of which Rs 66.9 million has been settled. Additionally, Rs 16.9 million has been settled under transport insurance, and Rs 391.8 million under other categories.
So far, Nepal Reinsurance Company has paid Rs 2.51 billion to insurance companies. The reinsurer received 2,860 claims totaling Rs 15.81 billion.
