Kathmandu, July 18 : The Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal (ISPAN) has raised the internet cost by 13 per cent by the internet service providers from Wednesday, July 17.
With this increment, internet subscribers have to bear an additional burden of at least Rs 100 on a minimum package, while other internet packages will be costlier depending on the type of internet package.
Earlier on July 26, 2018 too,the ISPAN had hiked the internet fee by 13 per cent on July 26, 2018 following the government’s announcement that it would charge them 13 per cent telecommunication service charge (TSC).
But, later, they annuled their decision because of the assurance on the part of the government to provide 6.5 per cent subsidy on TSC and waive TSC on internet wires and routers, leased line data connectivity and repair cost.
However, the ISPAN have again decided ti implement the 13 percent VAT on internet fee bemoaning that the government had failed to fulfill its promise of subsidising them.
According to it, customers in Nepal are being forced to pay the highest tax in the world for internet service.
