He also reaffirmed his commitment to bringing all the workers under the ambit of accidental insurance. Under this programme, the government provides the unemployed youth a minimum of 100 days of job opportunity in various sectors including agriculture, industry, livestock rearing, energy, forest, tourism among other sectors and the job will entail life sustainability allowance.

The government has announced to bring the labour migration of Nepali workers to foreign land to an end within five years by creating jobs in public development construction works at home. A data showed that over 165,000 youths have obtained labour permit in the last five months of the current fiscal year. The World Bank’s report in 2018 showed that 32 per cent of Nepal’s working-age population (15-64) was either unemployed or voluntarily inactive. Nepal needs to create at least 286,900 jobs every year to this employment rate intact.

Since the government announced the Prime Minister Employment Programme last fiscal year, more than 1.7 million youths across the country have been registered with the programme. Last fiscal year alone, over 175,000 unemployed youths were provided with employment opportunities. According to Prime Minister Employment Programme Director, Prakash Dahal, over Rs 5 billion has been allocated for employment opportunities for 60,000 unemployed youths for this fiscal year.

Among them, 70 per cent would be spent over labourer’s wage while rest 30 per cent will be spent over heading such as administrative expenses and the like. Dahal said that the amended procedure for the Programme has been sent to all 753 local units. RSS
