May 28 : The net profit of government-owned public enterprises has gone up by 12.36 per cent to Rs 48.77 billion in fiscal year 2018-19 compared to the previous year. This is revealed by the Annual Status Update of PEs of 2018-19 released recently by the government.
According to the report, 26 out of 44 public enterprises were able to make profits last year. Nevertheless, the dividend payment rate that the government received from these PEs saw a decline of 4.28 per cent compared to the previous year. The number of 13 PEs suffering net loss in the last year was 13 while five such public enterprises were defunct.
