Chitwan, February 11: The poultry business has suffered a staggering loss of Rs 18 billion in the last year.
“The farmers related to the very business saw such loss in the transactions of mainly eggs, chicks and meat,” says Nepal Poultry Federation vice-chair Tikaram Pokharel.
According to him, in 2019, a chick was sold out at just Rs 25 though its proper market price should have been Rs 55.
He further informed that the farmers have to sustain a loss of as much as Rs 4.72 billion when they were compelled to sell their chicken at the unreasonably lower prices.
Similarly, they had to bear a loss of Rs 3.45 billion in the transaction of eggs in the last year. The loss was also noticed in other production areas such as layers, broilers, and chicks.
It is noted that 10 percent of poultry business entrepreneurs have been forced to quit the profession because of colossal losses. RSS
