Kathmandu, August 14 : Tea workers here have warned of launching an agitation if tea entrepreneurs did not fulfill their demands.
Central Committees of Nepal Agriculture and Garden Area Workers’ Association, Nepal Tea Garden Workers’ Association and Nepal Tea Workers’ Association came up with such a warning.
One of the demands is that their remuneration be increased and social allowance of social security tax to be paid from the remuneration should be given to them.
There is a provision in the Article 106 of the Labour Act -2074 that the minimum remuneration of workers should be revised in every two years. But such provision has not been implemented yet. So, the workers want it implemented from this fiscal year. Similarly, another demand is that their dues should be paid.
The workers also demand that the employers provide them with safety materials in the workplaces considering the COVID-19 pandemic . The tea workers had launched street agitation for 44 days halting all works demanding implementation of Labour Act last year.
