Kathmandu, November 24: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, has assured that there won’t be a budget crunch for the upgrading of Nepalgunj airport. He said so during a discussion on Nepalgunj airport upgrading.
Once the long term plan of development is prepared for the construction of an international airport, it would help bring in numerous tourists. “Although Nepalgunj-Delhi flight is in priority, technical matters are yet to be sorted out. The hurdles will be cleared soon,” he stressed.
On the occasion, Director General at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Rajan Pokhrel, shared the information that long term plan for development of Nepalgunj airport was prepared. “Works under the first and second phases are accelerated. The process of land acquisition for runway expansion and terminal building completes soon,” he added.
Nepalgunj airport sees nearly 40 flights every day, providing service to 1,100 passengers. It was informed at the discussion that 100 bighas of land was needed as per long term place to expand the existing Nepalgunj airport, which is occupying 166 bighas of land. It is the busiest airport after Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. RSS
