July 26 : The Western Regional Hotel Association, Pokhara has urged hotel entrepreneurs to adopt the preparedness for the resumpion of hotels following the removal of the four months long nationwide lockdown on July 22.

“Hotel business has been marred by the protracted nationwide lockdown. It has been urged that an enabling environment should be ensured targeting the peak tourist season while utilising this free time at present when tourist arrival is almost zero due to COVID-19,” reads the statement issued by the Association’s President Bikal Tulachan.

The Association will provide training and facilitate the purchase of safety materials for hotel employees as per hotel operation protocol. The hotel entrepreneurs have been asked to adopt internal preparedness, said the statement. There is the responsibility of all hotel entrepreneurs to resume closed hotels by following the hotel operation procedure, said the Association.

The government lifted the nationwide lockdown on July 22. With this, hotels, restaurants and tourism sector will resume from July 30 and inter-district transportation and domestic and international flights from August 17.

Inthe view of the tourism sector affected by COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel sector will get 50 percent discount on renewal of hotel business and new membership for the fiscal year, 2020/21, according to the Association.

Reading materials to be distributed

The Pokhara metropolis is set to distribute reading materials to the students who could not turn up to schools due to COVID-19. Chief of Metropolis Education Division Hem Prasad Acharya informed the reading materials would be prepared and distributed to the students of community schools.

He shared the reading materials are to be handed to the students of eight wards of the Pokhara metropolis in the first phase on 26 and 27 July as per the Alternative Learning Facilitation Directive-2020.

A total of 5,600 students from eight wards would be provided with the reading materials, he further informed. Targeting the students who were deprived of school education, the metropolis has been conducting a television programme ‘Pokhara educational campaign’ to help explore the latent talent of the students and boost up their positive energy.
