Rakesh Kumar Jha, head of the Nepal Standards and Metrology Office, Kathmandu, said that they have been prepared to adjust the fares of 60 taxis per day from today. “It may take more than a month to adjust the fares on the meter of all taxis,” he said.

For example, in the case of one km, the regular fare is Rs. 53 per meter. But passengers will have to pay Rs 100 according to the new fare. The chart shows how many kilometers to travel from 6 in the morning to 9 in the evening and from 9 in the evening to 6 in the morning.

The Bagmati Province government has announced that the initial call (flag down) will be Rs. 50, Rs. 10 per 200 meters, waiting fee (waiting charge) will be Rs. The maximum time to do this is 30 minutes. Similarly, the flag down for the nighttime, which will be operational from 9 pm to 4 am, has been kept unchanged at Rs 15 per 200 meters.

The ministerial meeting of the province had decided to adjust the taxi fare with effect from 25 January earlier this year. At that time, the province had adjusted the fare rate at the initial call (flag down) to Rs 60 and after the initial 1 km journey at the rate of Rs 9.80 per 200 meters. However, the meter was not updated as the waiting rate and nighttime fare rate was not clear.
