Bangladesh has agreed to purchase 40 MW of power from Nepal. Bangladesh agreed to purchase 40 megawatts of electricity at the secretary-level ‘Joint Steering Committee (JSC)’ meeting between the two countries held in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The two countries have also agreed to hold a tripartite meeting with India as Nepal’s electricity has to go through India.
According to Spokesperson at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal, it has been agreed to sign a power sale agreement as soon as possible between Nepal Electricity Authority, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, India and Bangladesh Power Development Board to export up to 40 megawatts of power produced in Nepal to Bangladesh.
An agreement was reached between Nepal and Bangladesh in August last year to take 40 megawatts of power as a test.
