In a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, FTTEN demanded a ban on the Indian cargo vehicles, saying the presence of Indian cargo vehicles within Nepal is impacting the operations of domestic cargo vehicles.

The truck transport entrepreneurs said that there should be a permanent ban on the continuous influx of Indian cargo vehicles. Similarly, they have demanded proper management of truck parking facilities at major locations including Kathmandu.

General secretary of FTTEN, Rajendra Bikram Baniya, said that while fare rates have been established for 47 primary routes in the truck transport sector, their effectiveness has been limited. He requested the authorities to ensure efficient implementation and monitoring of these fare regulations. He said that there should be an easy way to handle accidents, provide medical treatment to the injured, and enforce proper-load bearing practices according to the law.

The entrepreneurs demanded an amendment to the laws related to the management of relief works, the confiscation of goods and the extended detention of trucks if there is any doubt between the goods in the truck and related documents during the revenue inspection.
