The survey report was made public during a program on Friday. The survey showed that 68 percent of the 498,058 wholesale and retail business establishments are registered with government agencies. However, about 32 percent of establishments are found to be operating without registration.

According to the report, 1,130,645 people are involved in this sector. Of them, 36 percent (403,964) are women. Looking at 100 establishments, the report shows that 146 men and 81 women are employed. Out of the total number of workers, 219,551 workers receive wages and benefits, with 20.50 percent being women and 60.60 percent being men.

Similarly, the report mentions that an average of Rs 604,912 per establishment is spent on salaries and other benefits of commercial establishments with salaried workers. The average annual expenditure per worker is Rs 208,494.

Chief Statistician Toyam Raya of the National Statistics Office (NSO) said that these figures depict the overall situation of the country. According to him, this is the second study after 2065 BS.

Dilli Raj Joshi, head of the Accounting Division at NSO, said that only 15,300 business establishments were studied, although they had planned to study 18,000 establishments.
