Similarly, 13.6 million units of plug-in electric cars were sold in 2023, marking an impressive 16 percent share of EVs in the automobile market.

This year, full electric cars constitute 61 percent of the plug-in electric car market, with 651,000 units sold out of the 1 million plug-in electric cars.

Plug-in hybrid car registrations are estimated at around 416,000 units, with significant growth seen in China, the largest plug-in car market, accounting for nearly 60 percent of all rechargeable car sales.

It is estimated that 20 million units of plug-in cars will be sold this year, comprising both full battery EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs.

BYD has sold the most vehicles in January this year, with 195,000 units sold by BYD alone. Similarly, Tesla has sold 113,000 units of vehicles following BYD. In the third quarter, Geely sold 41,000 units of vehicles.

Despite BYD leading in overall sales, Tesla maintains its dominance in the all-electric segment, with 113,000 units of fully electric cars sold in January alone. In comparison, BYD sold 100,000 units of fully electric cars during the same period.
