The Dhalkebar-Inaruwa section of Hetauda-Dhalkebar-Inaruwa 400 kV transmission line has come into operation.
The Dhalkebar-Inaruwa section of the transmission line has been brought into operation to strengthen and make reliable the electricity transmission system within the country and to expand the electricity trade between Nepal and India.
The 154 km 400 kV double-circuit transmission line from Dhalkebar in Dhanusha to Inaruwa substation located in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-4 in Sunsari was charged and brought into operation since Tuesday evening, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The transmission line has been charged by connecting to the 400 kV Dhalkebar and Inaruwa substations. With the commissioning of the Dhalkebar-Inaruwa section, electricity supply from 400 kV has started for the first time in the country.
Earlier, electricity was being imported and exported through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur cross-border transmission line at 400 kV. Now electricity supply has been started in the country through 400 kV transmission lines, said the NEA.
Managing Director of NEA Kul Man Ghising said that with the commissioning of the Dhalkebar-Inaruwa section, an important achievement has been made in improving the voltage of electricity supply mainly in the Tarai districts of Koshi Province, making the country’s transmission system qualitative and reliable.
He also said that this would support to increase the volume of electricity trade between Nepal and India. The transmission line can transmit about 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
Ghising said that the amount of electricity trade (import-export) through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur cross-border transmission line, which is currently in operation, can now be increased.
Currently, the electricity import and export volume between the two countries is only 800 MW.
He said that the electricity coming to Inaruwa substation through Koshi Corridor can be consumed in that area and if there is surplus, it can be brought to Dhalkebar through Dhalkebar-Inaruwa transmission line and exported to India.
The construction of the 288 km transmission line from Hetaunda substation to Inaruwa substation at Thanabharyang located in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-11 of Makwanpur was divided into two sections and the construction started.
The transmission line is divided into two sections Hetauda-Dhalkebar 134 km and Dhalkebar-Inaruwa 154 km. The Hetauda-Dhalkebar section is under construction.
