CG Telecom operation put on hold after SC verdict

Kathmandu, January 18 : The Supreme Court (SC) order has put on hold the immediate operation of CG Telecom involving investment of industrialist Binod Chaudhary.
A divisional bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and justice Iswor Prasad Khatiwada quashed the December 25 interim order issued by the apex court.
The operation of the CG Telecom has come to a halt with the acquittal of the interim order. The hearing on the telecom had begun on January 15. It may be noted that a single bench of justice Deepak Raj Joshi had issued interim order allowing CG to operate telecom service.
Acting Office Chief of Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) Puruswottam Khanal had registered a ‘vacate’ application demanding acquittal of interim order allowing operation of CG Telecom. The NTA has not allowed the CG for the operation of mobile service citing its incomplete legal process and criteria.
It may be noted that the CG had obtained rural telecom license in 2003 to operate service in the then 534 Village Development Committees of 16 districts in eastern development region where telecom service was not accessible. RSS
