The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is preparing to issue a final warning to industries that have failed to pay their bills for dedicated feeder and trunk line services. The state-owned power utility has stated that power supplies will be cut off if outstanding payments are not settled.
A senior NEA official indicated that the final notice will be sent in the first week of October, providing industries one last opportunity to clear their dues.
Recently, NEA reconnected power to six industries, contingent on their payment within three months. However, these payments have not yet been made. Previously, NEA demanded Rs 6.6 billion in overdue tariffs along with a 25 percent penalty, setting a 15-day deadline on June 10. When payments were not received, NEA disconnected power in the second week of July.
After a change in government, the affected industries approached Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who criticized NEA’s managing director, Kulman Ghising, for the disconnection. On July 19, Oli ordered the restoration of power.
NEA restored power on July 23, with the condition that dues must be paid within three months. Now, the NEA is preparing to send a final reminder, warning that failure to comply will lead to disconnection of power supply.
