The government has announced a 50% discount on electricity service charges for low-income households to provide financial relief.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), a state-owned entity, will offer this discount to households consuming up to 30 units of electricity per month.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Dipak Khadka, who also chairs the NEA’s Board, emphasized that the decision is aimed at reducing the financial burden on economically vulnerable consumers.
“This measure is meant to provide relief to those facing economic challenges,” Minister Khadka stated. “Customers who previously paid Rs 30 for the service charge will now pay only Rs 15.”
Currently, households consuming up to 20 units of electricity were required to pay a monthly service charge of Rs 30. With this new policy, low-income consumers will benefit from reduced costs, making electricity more affordable for those in need.
