By the end of Baisakh in the current Fiscal Year 2024/25, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 4.75 billion from Bangladesh through the Kakarbhitta border point, while exports to Bangladesh stood at Rs 356.2 million, according to the Nepal Transit and Warehousing Company Limited.
Subash Pandey, head of the company’s Kakarbhitta branch, reported that the largest imported item was raw jute, valued at Rs 1.78 billion.
Other key imports from Bangladesh included batteries, poultry feed supplements, cosmetic items, hydrogen peroxide, jute yarn, electrical equipment, medicines, potatoes, paper, glass, and food and beverages.
This trade imbalance highlights Nepal’s growing dependence on Bangladeshi goods, with raw materials and industrial products forming a significant share of the imports.
