The House of Representatives’ Committee on Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Welfare has instructed the government to operate the Udayapur Cement Industry under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Following a field study, the committee concluded that adopting the PPP model would enhance the industry’s competitiveness. It recommended that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies develop and implement a strategic plan to address long-standing challenges and resume operations under a competitive framework.
The committee also directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately release the deducted Provident Fund contributions of the industry’s workers and employees upon request.
In addition, the committee urged the government to take measures to expand the international market for areca nut, tea, ginger, and herbs. It further recommended facilitating branding and addressing production and distribution issues of traditionally produced local alcohol through appropriate legal provisions.
