Bara – Preparations are underway to officially hand over the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), following the completion of extension works.
The cross-border pipeline, which is already operational, currently transports petroleum products from Motihari, India, to Amlekhgunj in Bara. According to Prayankar Acharya, chief of the NOC Madhesh Province Office, the pipeline is in the test operation phase, with a technical team from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) overseeing the process.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the handover modality, which could include a joint inauguration by the prime ministers of both countries or an alternative format.
Meanwhile, work is expected to begin soon on the 69-kilometer extension from Amlekhgunj to Lothar in Chitwan, further enhancing Nepal’s petroleum supply infrastructure.
