The government has resumed its payment system from Sunday, enabling the release of salaries for civil servants and payments to contractors that had been stalled for five days due to the Gen Z movement.

According to Om Prasad Rijal, information officer at the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), all employees dependent on the government treasury will now receive their salaries and Dashain allowances on time. The construction sector will also benefit, as payments for completed projects are set to be disbursed.

The Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) estimates that around two million workers are engaged in construction nationwide. With Dashain just a week away, the restart of payments is expected to bring relief to employees and improve cash flow in the economy.

Revenue collection has also resumed after widespread disruptions. Protestors vandalized 14 Inland Revenue Department offices and five customs offices last week, of which four revenue offices and four customs offices were partially damaged. Tanka Prasad Pandey, spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, confirmed that most offices are back in operation, except those completely destroyed.

As of Saturday, government records show revenue collection of Rs 144.58 billion against total expenditure of Rs 120.78 billion, leaving the treasury in surplus for the first two months of the current fiscal year. However, the government now faces significant liabilities as it prepares to disburse salaries, Dashain allowances, and payments to contractors.
