Imports through the checkpoint increased by Rs 102.44 billion, or 15 percent, compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to Information Officer Uday Singh Bista, imports through the Birgunj border point have risen significantly this fiscal year, mainly driven by higher imports of petroleum products and iron and steel goods.

During the same 10-month period last fiscal year, imports worth Rs 692.43 billion had entered through the customs point.

Petroleum products topped the import list this year, with five types of fuel products worth Rs 181.70 billion imported during the review period. Iron and iron-based goods worth Rs 69.42 billion were also imported.

Similarly, machinery and spare parts worth Rs 57.66 billion were brought into the country, while crude soybean oil imports stood at Rs 55.07 billion.

The latest figures once again highlight Nepal’s continued dependence on imports, particularly for fuel, industrial materials, and essential goods.
