The government has appointed Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatt as the new Chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).
The appointment was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Friday, ending a prolonged vacancy at the country’s capital market regulator.
The position of SEBON chairperson had remained vacant for an extended period, raising concerns among investors and market participants over regulatory delays and the absence of leadership in Nepal’s securities sector.
With the Cabinet’s decision, Dr. Bhatt will now assume responsibility for leading the Securities Board of Nepal and overseeing the regulation and development of the country’s capital market.
His appointment is expected to provide much-needed leadership to SEBON at a time when Nepal’s stock market faces issues related to market reforms, investor confidence, and the strengthening of regulatory oversight.
