Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has urged the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to increase investment in Nepal’s infrastructure and productive sectors while making its financing more accessible and favorable to countries such as Nepal.
Dr Wagle made the remarks during the AIIB’s 2026 Annual Meeting in Doha, Qatar, where he called for greater investment in key infrastructure sectors, including roads, electricity, communications and information technology.
He also urged the bank to provide financing on terms that better suit Nepal’s needs and support efforts to attract both domestic and foreign private capital for productive investment.
The annual meeting, held on September 28 and 29 under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation,” provided an opportunity for Nepal to seek AIIB support for post-disaster reconstruction and strengthen cooperation with the bank and its member countries.
According to the Finance Minister’s Secretariat, Dr Wagle held discussions with the AIIB president and finance ministers from Qatar, India, Bangladesh, Armenia and Georgia.
The discussions focused on economic cooperation, expanding investment and securing support for Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
Dr Wagle returned to Kathmandu on Wednesday after travelling to Doha on September 26 to participate in the annual meeting.
