Nepal imported more than 106 million kilograms of paddy and rice worth Rs 5.61 billion during the first two months of the current fiscal year, according to the Department of Customs.
The country imported 57.69 million kilograms of paddy worth Rs 2.14 billion, accounting for 54.4 percent of the total import volume and 38.2 percent of the total import value of these products.
Similarly, imports of semi-milled and wholly milled rice stood at 36.79 million kilograms worth Rs 2.35 billion.
Nepal also imported more than 9.34 million kilograms of Basmati rice, spending Rs 1.02 billion during the review period.
The government collected more than Rs 420.4 million in customs revenue from paddy and rice imports during the two-month period.
