Kathmandu, April 9: Tornado has been confirmed to have hit Bara and Parsa districts that took place on March 31. A field study by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology confirmed it. The Department handed over the report of its field study to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barshaman Pun today. The tornado measured between 50 to 200 kilometres per hour, said Director General of the Department Surja Kumar Baidya, citing facts and other pieces of evidence collected during the field study. The tornado began from Jagatpur of Parsa and stopped at Bairiya of Bara. It may be noted that 28 people died and more than 600 injured in the incident that also caused damage to properties worth millions of rupees. Receiving the report, Minister Pun pledged to take immediate measures to make the Department well-equipped so that it could forecast such disasters in the future.
