Birgunj, April 10 (RSS): Bir Bahadur Kanu, a local dweller of Kalaiya sub-metropolis -13, Balrampur, had never-ever imagined such devastation till the disastrous storm of March 31 put many people’s lives in peril. He took out loan amounting to Rs 200,000 from Nirdhan Utthan Microfinance Kalaiya for his daughter’s wedding.

But his dream was broken into pieces with the burial of pieces of jewellery made for the purpose in the rubbles of disaster-devastated home. No matter what the disaster caused, his optimism for life is still irresistible, he said in an outburst of tears. Rojina Khatun, 45, also has come across a similar painful story. Her family was also preparing for the engagement of daughter Sabnam.

The disastrous wind had washed away Khatun family’s dream with the collapse of their house and the demise of their younger daughter Rubi. Likewise, Ijahar Miya, a dweller of Purainiya in Feta rural municipality, was surviving a happy life with his seven family members. But, the natural disaster had left his four members dead.

He lost his wife Meena Khatun along with daughter-in-law Sakiya and grandsons Ruksal and Ramsar when the house they were living was caved in. Recalling the devastation, Lais Miya of Feta rural municipality said the thunderstorm was so powerful that it had turned all structures into the rubbles in no time.

The natural disaster caused a big loss of lives and properties in Khutawa, Jabdi, Bhaluhi, Purainiya, Dharmanagar, Fulbariya, Hardiya, Telegai, Parshurampur and Dharmapur of Bara. Relief assistance is pouring in the disaster-hit areas from different parts of the country. RSS
