Kathmandu, July 27-The government has formally requested India to provide 935,000 tonnes of fertilizers from India under a government-to-government (G-2-G) deal.
In a bid to ensure easy import of the farm input, the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives (MoALMC) proposed the Indian government to supply the given amount of fertilisers for at least five years at the international parity price under the said deal.
The ministry says that such proposal is also vital to ward off the possible scarcity of different types of chemical fertilisers. It plans to import 150,000 tonnes of fertilisers this fiscal year, 170,000 tonnes in the second year, 195,000 tonnes in the third year and 210,000 tonnes each in the fourth and fifth years. It is estimated that the country would require almost 1.9 million tonnes of fertilisers in the next five years.
