Waling, August 23: In line with its concept of smart city, Waling municipality has started constructing corridor on both sides of Aandhikhola, a popular rivulet of Syangja district. Dilip Pratap Khand, mayor of the municipality, informed that the construction of corridors along the banks of Aandhikhola flowing through Waling has begun.

“We have nurtured the idea of ‘Aandhikhola Corridor’ as an alternative to Siddhartha Highway and other interior roads with the growing pressure of population and vehicles in Waling”, mayor Khand explained. “As the rivulet flows through around eight kilometers of Waling municipality alone, we would construct around 16-km road, eight kilometers in either side of the rivulet.”, he further informed.

The ‘Aandhikhola Corridor’ having a total length of 16-km will have seven-meter breadth, he added. It was tough to protect land with the raging rivulet eroding the territory in both sides. “The land located in the vicinity of the rivulet would be protected after constructing road following embankment”, he said.

“The corridor which is mooted as the alternative route would also help conserve ecology and beatify the town”, Mayor Khand briefed. The corridor covers the bordering area from Bhirkot municipality in the north to the border of Galyang municipality. We have started construction of the corridor along both sides. The task has been intensified in a way to complete the construction within three years. It is estimated to cost around Rs 150 million. RSS
