The Ministry of Finance has set up a three-member taskforce to secure resources for rebuilding physical infrastructure damaged during the Gen-Z movement and for conducting the House of Representatives (HoR) election slated for March 5, 2026.
The taskforce includes Suman Dahal, Head of the Budget and Program Division; Dhaniram Sharma, Head of the Foreign Aid Coordination Division; and Uttar Kumar Khatri, Head of the Revenue Management Division.
According to Finance Ministry Spokesperson Tanka Prasad Pandey, the team will carry out an internal study on resource mobilization by cutting certain projects and programs from the current budget. “A budget is needed for the election and reconstruction. The taskforce has been formed to identify ways to manage resources within the existing budget framework,” he said.
Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal has already emphasized that projects included under political pressure, inadequately prepared plans, and fragmented programs will be slashed. He noted that around Rs 100 billion could be raised for reconstruction and elections without introducing a supplementary budget.
