The government has instructed all online betting applications and related websites to cease operations within 24 hours as part of its ongoing 100-point governance reform initiative.
In line with this decision, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology sent an official directive to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), ordering service providers to block access to these platforms without delay.
NTA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal stated that after receiving the ministry’s instruction on Saturday afternoon, all internet and mobile service providers were directed to immediately disable the identified platforms and report back to the authority.
According to the NTA, the shutdown process is already underway, with 16 betting websites marked for immediate closure. The authority has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the government’s directive and ensuring full compliance across all service providers.
This action is part of a broader government effort to regulate online gambling and reduce the risks it poses to users in Nepal.
