The government has established a reconstruction fund dedicated to rebuilding structures damaged during the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9.
According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Council of Ministers meeting on September 21 endorsed the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Committee (Formation) Order 2025, paving the way for the creation of the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund. The initiative is aimed at repairing and rebuilding public and government structures damaged by fire and vandalism, while also supporting economic revival and relief programs.
In a press release issued Wednesday, the MoF stated that the fund will facilitate reconstruction, repair, rehabilitation, and other related works in an immediate and effective manner by ensuring timely mobilization of financial resources.
Call for National Participation
MoF Spokesperson Tanka Prasad Pandey, Joint Secretary, said the fund has been designed not just for reconstruction but also to promote economic revival and relief efforts. He added that the government seeks broad participation in this “great campaign of national reconstruction.”
The appeal extends to contributions from:
- Federal, provincial, and local governments,
- The private sector,
- Domestic and foreign citizens,
- Non-resident Nepali (NRN) communities,
- Friendly countries,
- Development partners and international organizations.
Incentives for Contributors
To encourage donations, the government has announced that the financial assistance amount contributed by individuals can be deducted from their taxable income for the current fiscal year.
Contributors can deposit funds directly into the ‘Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund’ account (No. 1960100102070004) at the Singha Durbar branch of Rastriya Banijya Bank.
Broader Significance
Officials said the initiative marks one of the government’s largest coordinated efforts to rebuild confidence and infrastructure in the wake of the Gen Z movement. The fund is also expected to complement insurance claims, subsidies, and relief packages already announced in response to the damages.
