‘Metropolitan Tourism Information Centre’ launched in Thamel

Kathmandu, July 3: A tourism information center of a metropolitan level has been set up at Thamel, the major touristic hub in the central capital. The ‘Metropolitan Tourism Information Centre’ set up with the support of the Department of Tourism and the Kathmandu Metropolis-26 and on the initiation of Tourist Police, Bhrikutimandap was inaugurated amidst a program here today.

Department’s director general Danduraj Ghimire inaugurated the center. Similarly, the ‘Tourist Police Mobile App’ was also launched by the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shailesh Thapa Chhetri. On the occasion, Ghimire applauded the role of tourist police in bringing down the incidences of crime in the Thamel area.

He promised to assist officially for good management of CCTVs and to construct public toilets in the Thamel area. Metropolitan Police Office Chief Chhetri said the technology-friendly police was the need of the hour. Stating that safety of tourist was a must to make the Nepal Visit Year-2020 successful, he said the Nepal Police was committed to providing full security to tourists.

He also sought the role of tourism entrepreneurs towards that end. Kathmandu Metropolis-26 chair Khyam Raj Tiwari said telephone, cable and electric wires placed haphazardly in Thamel had spoiled its image. The establishment of the center would be convenient for tourists arriving in the area. Thamel Tourism Development Council vice chair Rajuman Dangol said the significance of tourist police had further increased in terms of the security of tourists.

Most tourists arriving Nepal make their trip to Thamel and the center meant for the safety and convenience of tourists, according to Tourism Police Unit Bhrikutimandap chief Amrit Bahadur Basent. The newly established center is equipped with a help desk, CCTV surveillance system and so on. RSS
