Nepal received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments worth Rs 33.09 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year (2025/26), according to the Department of Industry (DoI). The pledges cover 236 projects registered between mid-July and mid-September.
Of the total amount, Rs 1.36 billion was committed through the DoI’s automated system, while Rs 31.72 billion came through regular registration of new FDI-based firms.
The agriculture sector emerged as the most attractive field for foreign investors, securing commitments of Rs 21.59 billion across nine projects—representing more than 65 percent of the total pledged investment. Tourism followed in second place, with Rs 6.69 billion pledged for 79 projects.
By size, 225 of the approved projects fall under small industries, four under medium industries, and seven under large-scale enterprises.
In terms of numbers, the communication and information sector led the tally with 120 registered projects. However, these accounted for a comparatively smaller investment commitment of Rs 562.7 million.
