The demand of flower especially Marigold, Makhamali, and Godwari will high in five days of Tihar festival. As the festival of lights and flowers coming near.
According to Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN), compared to last year’s consumption, this year the demand of Marigold is expected to increase by 14.29 per cent.
Around 4 million garlands of Marigold flowers has estimated to consumption in this year’s Tihar. A total of 4, 75,000 garland of globe amaranth (Makhamali) flower, 20,000 Godavari and 30,000 mixed garlands has been expected to consume in this Tihar.
This figure is only of commercially cultivated flowers. Farming for household purposes in the village is not counted.
It is estimated that 4.5 million garlands of Rs. 371 million of cost of flowers will be consumed, said FAN.
Last year, the consumption of garlands of flowers was around 3.5 million. Fan had projected that the domestic production was abundant, so only a few number of garlands of flowers needs to imported to meet the demand.
But due to high imports around 6 million garlands of flower imported, a large amount of domestic production could not get the market, said Min Bahadur Tamang, former President of the FAN.
This year, due to the unstable market condition of last year, as well as heavy rainfall on October 27 and 28, it was damaged a lot Marigold farming so which has led to a decrease in internal production and supply, he said.
It has been cultivating flower commercial in most of the parts of seven provinces. Domestic production meets 100 per cent in rural areas.

This year, 62.5 per cent of demand of flowers in Nepal is expected to be met by domestic production and rest 37.50 per cent flowers needs to be imported, according to FAN.
Consumers will be able to purchase marigold garlands at Rs. 80 to Rs. 100 this year.
Marigold flowers are being cultivated commercially in different areas of all seven provinces. Marigold flowers are mainly produced in Kathamandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Dhading ,Kavre, Makwanpur, Ramechhap, Jhapa, Ilam, Dhankuta, Sunsari, Morang, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Saptari, Siraha, Rupandehi, Kaski, Syangja, Banke, Palpa, Tanahu, Dang, Kailali and others.
Makhamali flower is commercial cultivating in Ichangunarayan of Kathmandu, Gundu of Bhaktapur, Godavari Badikhel of Lalitpur, Kailali, Palpa, Dhading and Ilam.
Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN) is being organised the 17th Chrysanthemum Flower Competition Expo in the Jawalakhel playground from October 24.
The four-day exhibition is being organised targeting Tihar, the festival of flower and light, according to the FAN.
The exhibition started from October 24 and continue till October 27.
