The 132 kV Burtibang Substation has come into operation. After construction was completed on Falgun 2, the facility was tested on Falgun 3 and 4 and has been in regular operation since Tuesday.
The substation, which was initially scheduled to come into operation a year ago, faced delays after locals in Badigad Rural Municipality of Baglung obstructed the construction of transmission towers and the laying of transmission lines. The transmission line project from Motipur in Kapilvastu to Sandhikharka began on Chaitra 12, 2078 BS (2022), with plans to bring it into operation on Asar 7 last year.
Project Chief Manoj Chaudhary said the project could not be completed on time due to obstructions at various locations. He explained that work was halted for nearly a year and a half after locals in Badigad filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding a halt to tower construction. Following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the petition on Asar 9 last year, the project was completed at a fast pace.
The 132 kV transmission project was launched in 2078 BS to connect hilly districts to the central transmission line. The line runs from Motipur in Kapilvastu through Sandhikharka in Arghakhanchi, Tamghas and Paundi Amarai in Gulmi, and finally to Burtibang. The substation has been constructed at Khalṭubot in Dhorpatan Municipality–2.
Chaudhary said, “We had planned to bring the project into operation last year, but various issues prevented timely completion. After finishing construction on Falgun 2, we conducted tests immediately, and the transmission line is now in regular operation.”
The distance from Kapilvastu to Burtibang is 86 kilometers, and a double-circuit transmission line has been installed. According to Chaudhary, the project has been completed at a cost of Rs 4.79 billion.
