24 groups enter final on smart city technology competition

Kathmandu, June 6: Twenty four 24 groups have entered the final round of the Smart City Technology Competition. The open competition was launched six months back by the Kathmandu metropolis’ urban planning commission.

The competition was organized to develop new thoughts and model to solve urban problems in Kathmandu metropolis. Four topics were given for the competitors. The groups selected by the experts’ panel were given three months’ training regularly.

The 24 groups now have whetted their skills to make their product more competitive, which was facilitated by the metropolis. The winner team will be provided the cash prize of Rs 500 thousand. Kathmandu metropolis has planned to transform the best performing group into the entrepreneurship.

The four thematic winners would be provided Rs 200 thousand each, while the second runner Rs 100 thousand, according to commission vice chairman, Saroj Basnet. Importance of the topic/concept, ability to produce, professional model, expansion capacity and presentation were the measuring indictors to determine the result. Similarly, community and environment, urban infrastructure development, community service, and public administration and management were four topics under which the competition was held.

The teams had to undergo four rounds to enter the present final stage. The competition is expected to help identify the urban problems in the Kathmandu and find technological solution to the problems. It is also the initiative to make the metropolis technology friendly. RSS
