Nepal records highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases at 1221

Kathmandu, August 30 : Nepal has racked up a total of 1,221 coronavirus cases-the highest single- day spike- on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. Of the new cases, 348 are women and 873 men.

Similarly, among the total people contracting the disease today, 429 are from the Kathmandu valley alone. Spokesperson of the Ministry Prof Dr Jageshwor Gautam said in a regular press briefing that 372 cases were recorded in Kathmandu district, 12 in Lalitpur and 45 in Bhaktapur.

A total of 682,343 PCR tests have been carried out so far, Dr Gautam added. The total number of active coronavirus cases is 17,518 across the nation. Similarly, there are 10,612 people in the institutional isolation facilities while 6,900 individuals are in home isolation.

According to Gautam, 267 individuals returned home after complete recovery in last 24 hours. With this, the total number of people discharged after recovery has reached 20,822.

Fourteen more people including four women lost their lives from coronavirus infection today. A 74-year-old woman of Sunsari, 47-year-old woman of Bara, 62-year-old woman of Mahottari, 72-year-old woman of Kathmandu, 60-year-old man of Sunsari, 62-year-old man of Morang, 70-year-old man and 35-year-old man of Mahottari, 30-year-old man of Rautahat, 29-year-old man of Lalitpur, 65-year-old man of Bhaktapur, 62-year-old man of Nawalparasi, and 57-year-old man and 67-year-old man of Rupendehi died from the disease. Altogether 221 people have lost their lives from coronavirus infection so far.
