Kathmandu, November 17: The 6th ministerial meeting of the Colombo Process, a regional mechanism of labour, migration and governance, concluded here on Friday with a 27-point Kathmandu Declaration.
In the Declaration, the meeting has decided to give continuity to the Technical Support Unit in order to facilitate the work of the five thematic working groups and country-wide tasks. The TSU will work together with the chair national, the technical working group and member states to organize migration in the region.
It has also decided to add four more working groups to the existing five thematic groups. Working groups on consular service for the migrant workers and to promote migrant women workers’ rights, implement SDGs related to labour migration and workers health have been added.
The meeting also decided to include the issues raised by the Colombo Process in the Global Compact on Migration to be held in the new future. The two-day meeting saw participation of all the 12 member states including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
