A total of 14 members have been elected to the 17-member ICAN Council, while the Government of Nepal is yet to nominate three members on the recommendation of the Auditor General.

Bhaskar Singh Lala has been elected as the Vice-Chairman for the first term of the Ninth Council. Santosh Kafle, Kshetra Gopal Pradhan, Sujan Kumar Kafle, Surendra Shrestha, Ram Chandra Khanal, Sujan Shrestha, Piyush Anand and Praveen Kumar Jha were elected as members from the chartered accountants.

The chairman and vice-chairman also became council members from the same category. According to the ICAN Act, the chairperson and vice-chairperson are elected by the council members.

Poshraj Nepal, Bholanath Pathak, Shankar Gyawali and Kesh Bahadur KC have also been elected as members of the four registered auditors.

Inaugurating the council, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma said that the government was working accordingly as structural changes were needed in Nepal’s economy. He said that an organization like ICAN could provide institutional support for this and support the government’s plan through skilled manpower.

Auditor General Dangal expressed confidence that the new leadership would help make the accounting profession more dignified and competitive.

Newly elected chairperson Oli stressed the need to pay attention to the recent changes in the auditing business due to the use of information technology.

Former president Madan Krishna Shrestha said that ICAN under his leadership had worked for the protection and promotion of professional rights during the Corona pandemic.
