A parliamentary committee is going to discuss with the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) about the detailed action plan to remove Nepal’s air flights from the European Union (EU) blacklist.

A meeting of the Foreign Relations and Tourism Committee of the Federal Parliament held on Sunday at Singha Durbar decided to call the NAC officials on December 21 to discuss the matter.

Rajkishor Yadav, chairman of the committee, said that the meeting of the NAC officials has been called on December 21 to discuss again as the initial briefing given by the NAC officials in the committee meeting today was not satisfactory.

The conclusion of the committee is that the NAC should come up with a detailed plan to remove Nepal’s airlines from the EU’s blacklist. Rather than blaming the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), the committee said that NAC should submit an action plan in a responsible manner.

Yadav said, “Regarding the ministry and the part of the CAAN, we will discuss with them. We will ask them about the work in their respective departments and how they plan to go about it. After they have prepared the plan, we will coordinate with the CAAN and the MoCTCA to determine how to proceed. However, it is essential for you to prepare the plan from your side first. The work that needs to be done from your part should also be accomplished. This is the reason why these matters have been raised. Especially, in the context of the EU, I feel – the Prime Minister has also expressed concern. He has conveyed the concerns that the Rastriya Swatantra Party has submitted a memorandum and said, it puts Nepal in an embarrassing situation internationally. Just as now, the issue of NAC has come up. There are other issues as well.”
