On Wednesday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined by four points, closing at 2,576.76.
The market opened at 2,580.76 points but quickly dropped to a low of 2,552.94 within the first 20 minutes. It rebounded to a high of 2,605.64 points within the next hour and a half but ultimately lost around 30 points in the latter half of the trading session.
The sensitive index, which tracks the performance of ‘A’ class companies, decreased by 0.19 points. Daily turnover fell to Rs 5.66 billion, down from Rs 7.36 billion on Monday, as the market was closed on Tuesday for the public holiday marking ‘Indra Jatra’.
Out of the companies traded, 74 saw gains while 163 experienced losses. Only two of the 13 groups—non-life insurance and banking—recorded gains of 20.78 and 11.16 points, respectively, while the finance index suffered the largest drop of 83.61 points.
CEDB Hydropower Development Company Limited had the highest turnover, amounting to Rs 205.80 million. Janautthan Samudayic Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited recorded the steepest loss at 7.67 percent, while Kalika Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd saw the highest gain, increasing by 8.08 percent.
