On Monday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant drop of 57.99 points, closing at 2,639.92 points.
The market opened at 2,697.91 points and briefly rose by about three points in the initial minutes. However, it quickly declined, hitting a low of 2,636.09 points just four minutes before the trading session ended. The index managed to recover slightly, gaining four points before closing.
The sensitive index, which tracks the performance of ‘A’ class companies, fell by 11.14 points. Daily turnover dropped sharply to Rs 5.90 billion, down from Rs 8.18 billion the previous day.
Out of the listed companies, 23 reported gains while 221 experienced losses. All 13 trading groups recorded declines, with life insurance suffering the largest drop of 280.73 points. Other sectors, including non-life insurance, manufacturing and processing, finance, and hotels and tourism, also saw significant losses.
Himalayan Reinsurance Limited topped the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 220.36 million. Ngadi Group Power Ltd was the biggest loser, down 8.81 percent in market price. Conversely, Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the top gainer, adding 9.98 percent to its market value.
