The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has exported 200 megawatts of surplus electricity to India after disconnecting the power lines of 34 large industries due to non-payment of dedicated and trunk line fees.
Following directives from NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising, these disconnections were made to high-consumption industries, including cement and iron rod manufacturers. Six of these industries have since had their lines reconnected after agreeing to pay their outstanding dues in installments.
Currently, only 200 MW is being exported to India, as flooding has affected the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, which typically exports up to 600 MW daily when fully operational.
